The Trinity (Front side)
The relief on the front recalls Arnold Janssen’s
devotion to the Triune God. The large hands
symbolize God the Father who offers his
Son to humankind: “For God so loved
the world that he gave us his only
Son.” (John 3,16) Father and
Son are being carried by the
Holy Spirit in the form of a
dove. On its wings are
seven flames, symbols
of the gifts of the
Holy Spirit.
The Sacred Heart (Right side)
The relief on the right side refers to Arnold
Janssen’s devotion to the Sacred Heart. A large
heart holds five smaller hearts: people of all the
continents find shelter in the Heart of Jesus, the
great symbol of God’s love. To the left of the Heart
is a palm leaf, symbol of the triumph over evil; to the
right a lily, sign of purity.
The Annunciation (Back side)
The relief on the rear side shows the scene of the
Annunciation. It refers to Arnold Janssen’s
devotion to the Divine Word, as John’s
gospel calls Jesus. The angel Gabriel
announces to Mary that she is to become
the mother of the redeemer.
Mary holds an empty jar in her
hand, a sign of her openness
to receive. The lily between
the angel and Mary refers
to her purity.
The Holy Spirit
(Left side)
“The Spirit of God was hovering over
the waters.” This verse from the book of
Genesis is depicted in the relief on the left
side. It recalls the Founder’s devotion to the
Holy Spirit. The waters are depicted as waves
and above the waters the Holy Spirit is hovering
in the form of a dove. Next to the wings are three
flames on the left and four on the right symbolizing
the seven gifts of the life-giving Holy Spirit.
